Mountain Boarding is an exciting new sport that over the past 10-15 years has developed from snow and skateboarding (combining the skills of both), it is now a sport in its own right, with a national series and competitions all over the world! Mountain boards have a snowboard style deck with foot bindings and trucks (similar to a skateboard), with 8"/9" pneumatic tyres. As the sport continues to evolve the different styles of riding are becoming more apparent. Downhill, freeride and freestyle/slopestyle are the most common. Downhill involves riding over rough terrain like ski slopes in the summer and downhill mountain bike style tracks. Freeride takes place in open woodland, on common land and anywhere there is an open space and a hill, so the rider can choose entirely where he/she wants to go. Freestyle involves dirt jumps and park features such as boxes, rails and ramps etc, freestyle is all about tricks, style and flow! The best place to learn would be a nice open patch of grass with a gentle gradient, similar to our nursery slope. (pictured right) Mountain boarding doesn't have to be taken to the extreme and can be enjoyed by the whole family, so there's no reason why mum and dad can't have a go as well. . . . . . but its not hard to get that adrenalin rush. . . if that's what your after! Like all extreme sports, mountain boarding is inherently dangerous!
